The Project
The original pressure-treated wood deck on this Fair Lawn split-level was a decade past its useful life — splintered planks, sagging joists, and rot at the ledger board. The homeowners wanted a low-maintenance replacement they could host on year-round, with a real lighting plan for evening use and railings that wouldn't fade or rust within five years.
We designed a 400 sq ft composite deck using Trex Transcend boards in Spiced Rum (a warm two-tone tropical color), framed on new pressure-treated joists with a properly flashed structural ledger. Railings are powder-coated aluminum with black square balusters; integrated low-voltage LED riser lights illuminate every step automatically at dusk.
From permit submission to final inspection: 12 calendar days. Trex Transcend carries a 25-year limited residential warranty plus our 10-year workmanship guarantee on framing and fasteners.
